May Transition Cafe – Simple Solutions to Climate Pollutions

Thanks to Simon Wallace from Transition Town West Kirby and Sustrans for a wonderful Transition Cafe last night. Simon suggested that while many look for high-tech solutions to climate change and energy depletion, in a resource constrained future there are many devices and technologies that could be made with found and recycled materials.

Simon talked about making a haybox with old puffer jackets, blankets and other insulation wrapped around an iron pot and kept in a cardboard box.

Experimented with heating water with aluminium cans painted black, some piping and plastic bottles to keep the wind off.

And showed how an improvised sun cooker worked…

Jon Robottom from Transition Southport also demonstrated how to recycle newspapers by making paper logs for the fire. We also talked about TS’s great recycled pop bottle greenhouse, which you can see here and here
