Jess Townshend-Jackson set up Transition Liverpool’s Greening our Neighbournood Alleys project last year. She worked with a team of volunteers to clear an alley in Wavertree of fly tipping and invited the neighbours who live around the alley to join her for a creative social event where 30 people attended.
This year she has run the first two of three workshops for local people. The first was to reimagine our neighbourhood alleys and the second involved making planters from disused pallets. Our latest alley event was held in an alley in Aigburth. 20 neighbours turned out on a rainy afternoon to take part in a clothes swap event. Between showers, people chatted, took plants and other items away and the children who came played games and had cake. There was a guess the jelly baby competition with the winning family sharing the prize with the other children who were there.
Come along to Transition Cafe on Tuesday 14th July at Quaker Meeting House to hear more about how the project is supporting people to grow plants in green spaces and turn alleys into pleasant community spaces.
